Embracing the Season

“Wow. You can tell little kids live here.”

It’s true. In my living room, the bookshelves range from wedding photos and classic lit, to brightly-colored plastic toys and picture books. There’s perpetually construction paper projects on top of the liquor cabinet, and the odds are good that there’re more toys under my couch than I know about. Move into the kitchen, and it’s hard to miss the alphabet letter magnets gracing the fridge. Our bathroom sports a step stool to accommodate little legs, and there’s an assortment of sippy cups that migrate around the house, seemingly of their own accord.  Continue reading

First Snow + Mom Card

We got our first real snow on Saturday–a few inches of powder (nothing like the 70+ inches in the Buffalo area!) that was just enough to get the kids excited to go out and play. It was Sophie’s first chance to play in snow, since she was too little last year, and it was funny to see her tromp around in her boots. She got annoyed when she fell down because she thought she was stuck, but had a blast. Grace was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t good snowball-making snow, but she got over it with a few snow angels and “helping” to shovel a bit. Continue reading

Life Lately

We woke up yesterday to this, much to Grace’s delight and my dismay.

I knew it had to come eventually, but everyone I ran into yesterday commented on how we aren’t ready for this. Grace, on the other hand, won’t stop asking if she can play in the snow. When does that transition happen? Because I definitely remember being thrilled as a child on the first snowfall of the year.

All The Fall Things

We’ve mostly gone a minimalist route for decorating this year, but it’s still fun to get the tub of fall decorations out and put them around the house. We didn’t carve or paint our pumpkins, and only spread our things around last weekend…after meaning to get around to it since September. We don’t have Halloween-specific things, so at least we can stretch it out til Thanksgiving! Continue reading
