It’s been awhile. I’m feeling ready to stretch my writing muscles again, and trying to remember how to do this. Blogging has changed so much since I first started writing, six(!) years ago. I have a couple more kids and my life is just busier than it used to be–which I suspect is a very similar story to my other blogging friends. Many have been able to turn their hobby into a side job, which is fantastic, and many have been like me–letting other things take priority over their little corner of the internet. Blogs are much prettier now, with beautiful pictures splashing across the page and rippling over to social media, too.
But sometimes, I really miss the old days, where we didn’t care about shares and likes and it was more like chatting with a friend over coffee… or some days, something a bit stronger ;). So, in that spirit, let’s catch up a bit on what’s been going on with us this summer.
My brother got married! His bride just might be the sweetest girl I’ve ever met, and we’re all thrilled to have her in the family. The wedding weekend was a whirlwind, but SO much fun. All of us (except Gemma, our wild child) were involved in the wedding, plus my mom was in charge of decorating, plus my dad cooked for the rehearsal dinner, plus we were spending time with her (the bride’s) family, plus we were trying to catch up with all of our family who came to town for the wedding. It was a little crazy and I’m sure we’d all do it again.
Just after that, we spent a week with Joe’s family in the Wisconsin Dells. It had been two years since we had all been together! We rented a house big enough for all of us, and had fun exploring the area.
On the Fourth of July, our good college friends came through town with their kids. We loved getting to catch up with them and watching our kids become friends was pretty great, too.
In the midst of our travels, our house was still chaotic from our projects. As soon as we got back from Wisconsin, our backyard got totally regraded and we had a patio poured. Of course, July is too hot for planting grass, so we’ve had a dirt/weedy backyard since then, and will for another month or so.
And now! It’s August, which always flies by for us. Joe always has a work project in early August that will mean working lots of nights, we have a lot of family birthdays/celebrations, and school starts in three short weeks!
