Where I’ve Been (Big News!)
Okay guys. Half of my readers (Mom and Joe) warned me against pointing out how long it is since I’ve blogged, but I felt as though I have a bit of explaining to do. I promise I have good reasons, outside of the whole busy work/busy summer/crazy kids excuses that don’t really count. So, here you go:
The biggest news: we’re expecting another baby! The due date is in early January and we’re all very excited. Well, Soph doesn’t really know what’s going on, but the rest of us are. I’d include a photo of me, but I think I’ll do us all a favor and… not include one. Rest assured, it would be a perfect submission for Blythe’s One Hot Mess linkup. I was trying to think up some cute way of sharing the news, but morning/afternoon sickness and all-the-time tiredness has sapped my brain. I don’t remember being this miserable with the previous two pregnancies, but this is the first time I’m chasing two kids around at the same time, so maybe that’s it. Either way, there were multiple days in the very early weeks when I would tell Joe to bring food home with him in the evenings, because the last possible thing I could think about (or smell!) was food.
And then. Three weeks ago, Joe went out for an early morning bike ride (overachiever, staying fit and all) when he crashed and burned. Yes, he was wearing a helmet, but didn’t hit his head. Luckily, an ER nurse happened to be walking her dog nearby, and she brought a first aid kit and her pickup to take him to the hospital. He ended up with a broken wrist, a couple of broken bones in his ankle, and a nasty wound in his knee. The ankle needed surgery, but the good news is that he is now in a walking boot (no more cast for his foot) and is weaning off the crutches.
It’s been a challenging few weeks, to say the least. Luckily, both of us have still been able to work (I started some freelance editing a couple of months ago), though Joe can’t drive so he’s needed rides every day. There’s been a lot more takeout happening around here than usual, and I’m not going to lie, I’m almost sick of pizza. We’ve been blessed with family and friends helping out with meals, babysitting during Joe’s appointments, and keeping the house livable.
A few other highlights from the past month:
My extended family has an annual campout at my grandparents’ farm every year. It’s always a lot of fun to hang out with my 3472038 cousins (give or take) and this year, Grace got to ride a horse for the first time. Big stuff. About 43 of us loaded up into an old bus (it looks like a prison bus) for a 2 hour drive to my cousin’s graduation party-we made quite an impression.
The kids’ first dinosaur ride (with my aunt). Soph is obviously a fan. Please note the prison bus in the background.
We also hit up a vow renewal, a wedding, a first Mass, and two ordination receptions (same priest, I was too sick to drive to the actual ordination)… and took zero photos. Wait, that’s not true. Joe got this one of Grace and my cousin’s son dancing at the wedding.

The rest of the days have been full-on survival mode, but when Sophie isn’t cutting molars and Grace isn’t a defiant rebel, we’ve been entertained with these little characters.
So that’s what’s been happening over here. I’m crossing my fingers that this nausea will be gone forever very soon, and Joe’s recovery is swift. I’m so ready for him to help with bedtime again… because, as we all know, it’s all about me.
