Five Favorites: In the Kitchen

Linking up with Hallie for another round of favorites

I love me some good kitchen utensils. I spend a lot of time preparing food, and there are a few things that make my life easier while I’m feeding my family.

1. Tongs.

I love a good pair of tongs. Mine are rubbery on the bottom, so they won’t scratch my non-stick pans, they close so I don’t have problems with them getting caught in drawers, and they’re great for so many uses.

2. Immersion blender.

I use this all the time, whether I’m making baby food, pureeing soups, or making smoothies. I hate cleaning our regular blender, and this is small, easy to clean, and doesn’t take up much counter space – all wins in my book. Mine is a basic one (similar to this) but you can also get them with other attachments, too.

3. Knife set with shears.

Someone gave us a knife set when we got married, and I can’t really imagine life without them. I rarely put the shears away since they get used so often, and I use some of the other knives every day.

4. This pan.
31YUAhTDtKL._SY450_One of my favorites, ever. I know that nonstick pans aren’t everyone’s favorite, there’s health concerns, but I care not. I love the tall sides, especially for frying greasy items like sausage, so I don’t end up with grease spatters everywhere afterward. It’s also large enough for making sauces (unless I’m doing a huge batch, which is almost never) and is generally my go-to.

5. Meat thermometer.
719GP4vIHzL._SL1500_Specifically, one that has a timer you can set. I love that I can use mine on the stove or in the oven, can set the timer/temp read to go off when the meat reaches the temperature I want it, and I don’t have to stand there babysitting it.

Still on my wish list is a KitchenAid stand mixer, and maybe a toaster oven to replace the one that my mom accidentally set on fire – but I’m pretty particular about what I want, and I don’t know if they still make the one I would ideally choose. What are some of your faves?

Those tongs… what a great idea! I love my meat thermometer. I have a KA mixer and I love it, and I couldn’t do without my crock pots (yes, plural), my toaster, or my stainless steel fry pan. 🙂

I have multiple crockpots, too! Different sizes, different uses. 🙂

Great list! A-MEN to the good pair of tongs! I’ve purchased at least 2 over the years that were lousy- what’s the point of tongs if they won’t pick up anything?? And my sisters love their immersion blenders. I’m only have a counter-top blender and rarely use it for the reason you mentioned, so maybe I need to see what all the immersion blender fuss is about. 🙂
