End of Fall/Grace’s New Sleeping Quarters

Fall is officially over, as evidenced by my calendar (December does not equal mild temps in Iowa, solstice or no) and the snow flying by my window, so I thought I’d share a few photos before they get seriously outdated. Joe has been working like crazy lately, since there’s some big changes with the business (on top of the usual deadlines), so my mom took pity on us when she visited one weekend and raked our yard for us.

Naturally, Grace had to be part of the action and “helped”

Grace hated every second.

Someone felt left out

Of course Grace was eating the leaves, not Sophia.

Obviously Christmas card material.

Joe’s parents made the long trek from Ohio to visit for Thanksgiving. We had a great time, and they spoiled us all. Joe got to have fun hunting with his dad, the girls loved all the extra attention and playmates, Grace conned her way into having Grandpa and Grandma let her play Angry Birds every day, and I got breaks from the demanding little people and from cooking, since they kept buying us dinner. Twist my arm. Plus, I now have one Thanksgiving turkey under my belt (thanks to lots of guidance from Joe’s mom), so I’m practically June Cleaver now.

We snapped about 35 photos of the kids with grandparents, and they all look something like this:

Sophie started being a little ham, and we were able to capture the scrunchy face she does on (digital) film. I wish words could describe how much I love this expression.

A little Black Friday shopping for Joe meant Grace scored a giant box to play in.

In an attempt to stave off the meltdown that was clearly coming when Joe announced nap time, he secured his place forever as the fun parent (let’s be honest, he’s always had that title locked down like Fort Knox) and told Grace that she could sleep in her clubhouse. This box now takes up most of the open real estate in her room, and she’s been happily sleeping there every night since Saturday. It’s a bit hard to see, but picture roughly a hundred blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals/dolls in there and you’ll have the general idea:

I’m off to think warm thoughts while I quit neglecting everything I’m actually supposed to be doing. I hope it’s warmer where you are – but I don’t want to hear about it if it is.

I can’t get over that first photo! So precious!! We kind of missed the raking of the leaves part here in GA. It was a very short fall!

She was SO excited to help. I have to take advantage while I can – I know that it won’t belong before it won’t be fun anymore to help with chores. 😉
