Bits and Pieces
I don’t have it together enough to get a well-thought out post written right now… I have some thoughts mulling around that hopefully I’ll have the brain function to string together soon, but for now, here’s a few random snippets.
I’m realizing just how much Grace needs structure and focused activities in her day. I tend to be lazy and encourage free play, but she gets bored easily, wants company, and tends to sneak away and get into trouble. I spent some time with her “playing school,” which meant tracing letters, counting with Legos, playing a matching game, that sort of thing. She LOVES projects, especially when they involve craft supplies, so I’m trying to work some of that in, too. She tends to be better behaved since she has more of my attention on her, and it’s much harder for her to be sneaky. Not impossible, though, as I found, when I discovered milk in the silverware tray yet again. I think she squeezed that into her schedule when I ran downstairs to get the laundry for all of 35 seconds.
The cold weather/snow has kept us inside more often lately, so I had a little date with Jillian Michaels yesterday. So much soreness in so many muscles that haven’t been used in far too long. I’m trying to actually stick with it, especially with the holidays coming up so soon… and Grace has already requested a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.
Our house has been something of a bed and breakfast recently, and the girls have been loving all the extra attention. When my parents came to visit, my mom called ahead so Grace could watch as they pulled in.
One of my favorite parts of living in my town is the used book sale they have every November. I’d been having a rough day when Joe essentially told me to get out (in the nicest way possible) and go to the sale. Twist my arm, why don’t you. 30,000 books, coffee, cookies, and some time to myself where I didn’t have to worry about someone running away, asking me annoying questions, or being loud and disturbing other shoppers. One of my favorite days of the year, hands down.
Now I just need to go through some books that we don’t read any more and pass those on, because the bookshelves are filling up and the kids’ books are out of control. My goal is to get some purging done (clothes and toys, too) before the holiday crazy really gets rolling and we end up with more stuff that we don’t have a place for.
